Dear Liberty,
Last week’s letter reflected on the blessing of God's Divine Providence in America’s history. As always happens, Satan entered the garden and lied just enough to entice us to eat the forbidden fruit. He made us believe that we were smarter than God. All we did was take our knowledge of good and make it evil. (see Fruit of the Forbidden Tree)
Divine Providence was distorted by people wanting to impose their own will under the guise of God's precious guidance. They twisted the concept of Divine Providence just enough to redirect people’s actions. They took America’s fate out of God’s hands and put it in their own. With this misrepresentation, they decided what America’s course would be but claimed it was God's will.
According to Historian Daniel Walker Howe, "American imperialism did not represent an American consensus; it provoked bitter dissent within the national polity ... Whigs saw America's moral mission as one of democratic example rather than one of conquest."
Manifest destiny claimed America’s fate was to force her way across the West. It was God’s desire that she conquer all and spread Anglo-Saxon culture. This led to the heart of manifest destiny: racial superiority. Supporters believed the white man was destined to impose his more advanced society on those considered subordinate. This was in direct contradiction to the Declaration of Independence that declared, “All men are created equal.”
Manifest destiny opened the doors to the spread of African slavery, the slaughter of Native Americans, and the Trail of Tears. (see America's Ongoing Civil War) It demanded we overrun and conquer those regarded as less advanced.
Ironically, often those who incorrectly define American Exceptionalism as the belief of “superiority” are actually the ones who consider themselves superior. The same people who criticize America for expansionism also demand everyone submit to their ideology.
Not officially coined “Manifest Destiny” until 1845, the concept began to take root during Andrew Jackson’s presidency. (see Doctrinally Sound) Evolution and Unitarianism had already infected universities and churches, giving support to the white man’s ego of supremacy. (see "Higher" Education)
Jackson justified his desire to remove Native Americans in his 1830 State of the Union Address:
“Nor is there any thing in this which, upon a comprehensive view of the general interests of the human race, is to be regretted. Philanthropy could not wish to see this continent restored to the condition in which it was found by our forefathers. What good man would prefer a country covered with forests and ranged by a few thousand savages to our extensive Republic, studded with cities, towns, and prosperous farms, embellished with all the improvements which art can devise or industry execute, occupied by more than 12,000,000 happy people, and filled with all the blessings of liberty, civilization, and religion?”
Jackson defended his proposal claiming white children leave their families to move westward, why shouldn’t the natives. In fact, whites would jump at the offer to have the government relocate them and pay for it all. The problem with his argument was the natives were not given a choice.
Jackson used his government position to obtain the most valuable western land for him and his friends. In an “insider trading” scheme, Jackson secretly sent his surveyor real estate friends into the west while the Native Americans were occupying it. After forcing the tribes out, they obtained the land for minimal cost. They then turned around and made fortunes by selling it for huge profits. Jackson used his portion to buy a plantation and over 100 slaves, which allowed him to prosper even more. He entered the White House virtually broke and left with the equivalent of $100 million today.
The "Father of the Democratic Party" built his movement on the destruction of the Native American and profiting off the backs of the African slaves. All done under the promise of manifest destiny. His actions cemented racism into the DNA of the Democratic Party from the very beginning.
Many before the Civil War rejected manifest destiny on the simple fact that it promoted the spread of slavery. After the war, manifest destiny began polluting the Republicans Party as Darwinism spread. With the acceptance that Anglo-Saxon linage was superior to all others, the cause of expansionists was embraced. It also poisoned Christianity into rejecting creationism, which establishes "All men are created equal." (see Inherit The Truth) Native and African Americans were no longer our brothers and sisters, but our subordinates.
Democrat President Woodrow Wilson, the first real progressive president, singlehandedly reversed much of the racial progress American had achieved since the Civil War. He re-segregated government offices and rebirthed the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) with his endorsement of “The Birth of a Nation”. Convinced blacks were inferior, Wilson believed he had not only a right, but a duty, to control their lives. He justified his actions by claiming segregation was actually a benefit for blacks. Whenever you hear the phrase, “For the good of the people” or more frequently, “For the good of the children,” that person is screaming manifest destiny. Their goal is domination.
Woodrow Wilson and the Democratic Party also used the KKK to forcefully control the black population. (see Civil Rights...And Wrongs and Riots And Rights) KKK members led blacks, who were predominately Republicans at the time, to voting polls and forced them to register and vote Democrat.
Those who believe in Divine Providence believe if you try to follow God’s Will, do the right thing and live your life properly, God will help you along. People will automatically gravitate towards you. We saw this with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Republican President Ronald Reagan. Even Democrats rushed to support Reagan as he spoke of God’s truths and just basic, responsible living and governing.
On the other hand, followers of manifest destiny have convinced themselves that their way is the only way. They have no problem forcing and dragging people along to achieve their goal. Jackson did it with the Native Americans, Wilson did it with the African Americans, and Democrat President Barack Obama did it with all Americans.
Obama and Congressional Democrats forced ObamaCare on to the American people even though 60% said they did not want it. Obama has illegally signed Executive Order after Executive Order removing rights and pushing through his radical and progressive agenda. Manifest destiny is very much a “Get out of my way,” and “It’s my way or the highway cause I’m on a mission from God,” mentality. Obama said, “Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. And recognizing that my fate remain tied up with their fates, that my individual salvation is not going to come about without a collective salvation for the country.” That’s progressivism, which is the offspring of manifest destiny that has thoroughly infected all political parties. It is the mentality of, "We know better. We have to force you to do what is right so we can all be saved. We have the answers so just sit down, shut up and fall in line."
In his study of the two concepts, Glenn Beck devised a theory: “When man tries to live in accordance with nature’s God and nature’s laws, and works for the betterment of man, God helps. However, when man seeks power and riches by using nature’s God or nature’s laws in conjunction with others seeking the same, God withdrawals and evil masquerades as good.”
When Peter declared that Jesus was the Messiah, Jesus praised him saying, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.” But just verses later when Peter rebuked Jesus for predicting his own death, Jesus responded, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” This is how quickly you can switch from Divine Providence to Manifest Destiny.
Satan will always try to confuse us by asking, "Did God really say that?" (see Tree Of Life and Fruit Of The Forbidden Tree) It is time to turn that question back on him. Did God really say to enslave people? Did God really say to force our culture on Native Americans? Did God really say people of color are less of a human than Caucasians? Did God command us to control people's lives and lie to them "for their own good?"
Liberty, you always need to determine if you are living according to God's commands or are you seeking your desires and expecting God to fall in line and clean up your mess. You will only find the answer if you are able to follow Washington and Lincoln's lead. (see God's Divine Providence) You must humble yourself. If you don't, your ego will always convince you that your desires are right.
That’s my 2 cents.
Love,
Mom
